Fighting with crimes: to cut down the roots or to put them to prison?

Fighting with crimes is not something we can do so easily. The way we try to reduce crime has a significant role whether the number will be decrease or not. Some people think that it is as simple as having more police officer to have a patrol or putting crimes to jail. On the other hand, there are also different opinion that we should cut down the crimes by the roots of crime such as low economical status or uneducated citizen.
Poverty and lack of educational opportunity are believed to be the main cause for people to commit crimes. People who came from low economical status tend to commit crime to make ends meet. This is mostly because they believe that there is no other option for them where they have to fulfill their daily necessities but have no money to by the things. Hence, they are mostly unwilling, but have no choice but to steal something or blackmail someone. In line with this, it is also believed that the uneducated person commits more crime than the educated one. Having no degree is related to less opportunity of a job where it also leads to a poverty. Thus, in order to cut off the crimes, people think that it will be much more efficient to dismiss the source of it.
On the other hand, people believe that the number of crimes are very related to the police capability to find the criminal and put them to prison. This opinion can be created by the thought of a prison as a scary place to go. Hence, it could make people afraid to commit crime. In Saudi Arabia for example, people who commit crime such as stealing will be put into jail and receive a sentence where the police officer will cut their right hand. This occasion, where more police officer patrol on the street to catch the criminal and give various sentences to people who commit crimes will create stigma for citizen that the criminal will be punished equal to the crimes they commit. Thus, it is believed to be the best way to decrease the number of crimes.
In short, to cut down crimes from the root is probably the best option. Although it is not an easy task to do, I believe if we collaborate not only the government and police officer, but also NGO and citizens, dismiss the poverty and lack of education will be easy and significantly decrease the number of crimes.
